Trappistes Rochefort
Saint Rémy monastery was founded in 1230 – seven centuries ago – at Saint Remy Secours Notre-Dame by nuns. From 1464 to 1794 the monastey was inhabited by Cistercian monks of Félipré until closed beacause of events related to the French Revolution and remained that way till 1887. Today 21 monks live in the monastery and among the 5 monks have the know-how to brew beer. They produce small batches of Rochefort beer which color and taste seem to have similarities with some red wine tannins as noticed by experts.
