Trappist Achel
In a forgotten corner of the Flemish land, hidden in the meadows and forests of the Netherlands stands the Achelse Kluis near the banks of a small river. Since 1655, this landmark stands for a life devoted to pray and labor as Saint Benedict quoted: «Ora et labora». However, this tradition was interrupted by the French Revolution.
The gradual restoration of the monastery and the farming premises started around 1925 but the constant agricultural crises drove them into decay.
This leads us in December 3rd 1998 when a monk named Dom Mark started again the beer production of Achel.
