Schlenkerla
The historic brewery of Schlenkerla is located in the ancient town of Bamberg. Today, the sixth generation of the Trum family runs the brewery using traditionally wooden oak barrel to produce the unique smoked beer Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Many myths have grown up around the origins of Smoked Beer. A story says that, when a brewery in Bamberg burned in the Middle Ages, the malt was smoked accidentally. As unexpectedly, Bamberg’s citizens enjoyed the flavor of the resulting brew, and thereafter, the technique was applied on purpose.
