Makarounas Boutique Winery

Makarounas is a newly established family winery located in the village of Letymbou, on the west coast of Cyprus, which carries the viticultural history of four generations. Letymbou is located in the area of the “vineyards”, as the locals call them, precisely because the area is associated with a long tradition of viticulture. Thus special attention is paid to the concept of terroir. The vineyards currently cover 28 hectares of land and are located at an altitude of 400-600 m. affected by the warm Mediterranean climate and significant rainfall. The surrounding hills, crystalline gypsum, limestone and quartz rich soils, together with the uninterrupted exposure to the valley winds, modify the local mesoclimate. The winery has the privilege of being the only winery in Cyprus that sources grapes exclusively from privately owned vineyards. Production is currently 75,000 bottles per year. The fact that the quality of the fruit is completely under the control of the winery allows the production of wines of high specificity and personality based on the terroir.
